As of November 2011 I am back in action with Solidworks 2008.

Custom PRR Numberplates

I am offering a Custom PRR Keystone and Round Numberplate service with the numbers cast just like the real thing in your choice of locomotive number and scale. They will be made per order only. I have the original PRR drawing for the Keystone Numberplate. It is already drawn full size down to every last detail including the 3 posts in the rear. But that is not needed for model form. A single center back mounting pin is all that is usually needed to mount it to the model.

Perhaps you have an obsession with that ONE PRR Steam locomotive like I do with K4 5495. It will be an AWESOME detail to have a 3D cast Numberplate on the front of your locomotive!

Classes that have no plates done are mostly because those locomotives do not exist in S Scale – yet.

These are numberplates that are planned in the distant future or that are already done.

Road Numbers in blue are already designed.

* 5495 is NOT available for sale in S Scale

The scale you want the plates made in is not important. HO to O Scale has been made.

You can mix scales if you want by getting a tree made with friends and split the costs.

In Spring 2011 I added urethane items to my

production capabilities. I have an excellent urethane

caster I have been working with.

Here are some items I have made in urethane.

More are coming!

Do you want to get an item designed and produced?

If you want an item designed, this is what needs to take place first.

Please read the following in full at least once.

The production item will be produced using a casting process. No sheet metal parts can be made.

I can and will handle the design work through to getting the completed parts into your hands. From the start of the design to having parts in hand should be approximately 4- 6 weeks if there are no revisions needed and the 2 other companies involved are not behind schedule.

I need good high resolution photos and a drawing or sketch complete with all of the necessary dimensions. This is a rare combination of data. No work will begin until I get this data package.

I will not do research on your part. Your job is to supply a complete data package to me. I will not try to draw a part from a small photo copied from another manufacturer’s website. Again see the above.

You should download and install the free Solidworks Viewer from E Drawings here This will allow you to see the design file better then a TIF or JPG photo file. If there is an error discovered in the design after it is done, you should have not approved it from a photo file. The E Drawings viewer is the best way to go. This work is all Cyber. You will not get anything in the mail to sign off on.

I will guarantee that my drawing is correct to a reasonable level of detail and accuracy. Since the manufacturing of the master pattern and casting is not in my control, I cannot guarantee that you will be 100% satisfied with the parts 100% of the time. This is all a rather new technology that is improving all the time. But we are dealing with very small parts. Start with a simple item to see if you are happy with the quality, then we can progress to more complex items from there.

The current resolution is .002” but the printing plane that a specific detail is on has a great affect on the minimum thickness and its reproduction. HO parts will most likely have to be somewhat oversized to be produced. Wall thicknesses should be greater then .020 for consistent printing and casting results. Most S and O Scale parts should not have a problem with the resolution issue.  Most of my multiple parts trees are about 1” wide by 3” long.

I reserve the right to produce your item in another scale. You must state that you want exclusive production rights to an item early on. That will become a negotiated item of the process.

It is not economical to have multiple masters printed to be used as final parts. My vendor claims that the masters can be glued and painted. The master pattern has the consistency of a very firm gel. They are somewhat bendable, but can break. However it would not do well as a wear part such as a truck side frame.

You should count on an absolute minimum of $300.00 before parts are made. There are NO returns or refunds for any reason. Share the risk – share the reward. All costs are paid in full in advance. Payment is due upon acceptance of the design so the item production can begin.

If you want urethane items I will consider waiving the design costs if the production run is purchased from me. Private labeling of your item is possible.

These may appear to be unreasonable terms, but I don’t think so. If I were reading the above on someone else’s website I would most definitely try at least 1 part to see how well it reproduced if I wanted a given part THAT badly. This is the extent I HAD to go to in order to get the parts I wanted. I will share my skills but I will not finance anyone else’s modeling. Finally – who else is offering such a service? I found from personal experience that you MUST be an experienced model railroader AND have the skills to design and draw the item.

The installation of your new parts on your piece of rolling stock and painting are available as well.

Email me if you are interested in getting an item designed.
